Residents at a care home in Altrincham have been reading classic fairytales with local nursery children.
It was a morning straight out of the storybooks, as residents from Care UK's Halecroft Grange, on Hale Road, welcomed children from Broussa Nursery into the home to read classic fairytales.
The residents, who had been practising their best character voices, sat with the children and read to them, so that they could enjoy a retelling of famous childhood stories while admiring the colourful pictures on the pages.
Commenting on the morning, 92-year-old resident, Jean Collins, said: "I didn't think I would be able to interact with the nursery pupils as I haven't read with children in about 50 years. But one child came straight to me with a book, and we started to read. It lifted my spirits. It is important for children to read for their development. I look forward to seeing the children again"
Suzanna Sumegi, General Manager at Halecroft Grange, said: "We've had a wonderful time reading stories together here at Halecroft Grange. The children really enjoyed storytime with the residents, who were in their element getting into character to bring the children's favourite books to life!
"Intergenerational relationships can be incredibly beneficial for both younger and older people and provide residents with a real sense of wellbeing and purpose - so we would like to extend our thanks to Broussa Nursery spending the day with us here at Halecroft Grange."
