Hale Barns, Hale and Bowdon are three neighbouring villages in the town of Altrincham. They are suburbs of Manchester and about 12 miles south of the city centre. In 1974 the area became part of Greater Manchester, however many local residents still use Cheshire on their address.

Hale is the largest area with a selection of shops, bars, restaurants, a library and bowling green. Hale Barns has a shopping precinct called The Square with a supermarket and some stores. Bowdon is mostly housing with just a few pubs and businesses. As well as the village centres, there are small groups of stores on Moss Lane, Park Road and Wellgreen in Hale serving the local community.
